Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to ask and answer the question, "How do you say this?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask someone how a word is pronounced.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Hoe zeg je dit?
Het is "parkeerplaats."
Once more with the English translation.
Hoe zeg je dit?
“How do you say this?”
Het is "parkeerplaats."
"It's 'parking lot.'”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “How do you say this?”
That's: Hoe zeg je dit?
Listen to it again: Hoe zeg je dit?, Hoe zeg je dit?
This Dutch sentence means something like " How say you this? ” But it means “How do you say this?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
Het is [ ].
“It's [ ].”
For example:
"It's 'parking lot.'”
Het is "parkeerplaats.", Het is "parkeerplaats."
