Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What kind of movies do you like?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to talk about movies and ask other people about their favorite kinds of movies.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Van wat voor soort films hou je?
Ik hou van horrorfilms.
Once more with the English translation.
Van wat voor soort films hou je?
“What kind of movies do you like?”
Ik hou van horrorfilms.
“I like horror movies.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "What kind of movies do you like?"
That's: Van wat voor soort films hou je?
Listen to it again: Van wat voor soort films hou je?, Van wat voor soort films hou je?
This Dutch sentence translates as "From what kind of movie like you?" But it means "What kind of movies do you like?"
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
Ik hou van [type of movie]films.
This Dutch sentence translates as "I like from [type of movie] movies." But it means "I like [type of movie] movies."
For example:
“I like horror movies.”
Ik hou van horrorfilms., Ik hou van horrorfilms.
