Gina:And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Dutch Vocabulary, Lesson 7! In this lesson you'll learn 5 essential words related to Food and Drink. These are five common Dutch vegetables. Hand picked. You can find a complete list of vocabulary at DutchPod101.com.

Gina:This vegetable got its distinctive orange colour from the Dutch. In the 17th century the carrot was first brought from Iran to the Netherlands. It had a different colour from its present orange, but the Dutch cross-bred it until they had a hybrid with same orange colour as that of the Royal House of Orange-Nassau. After that the orange carrot spread out all over the rest of Europe.
