Gina:This vegetable got its distinctive orange colour from the Dutch. In the 17th century the carrot was first brought from Iran to the Netherlands. It had a different colour from its present orange, but the Dutch cross-bred it until they had a hybrid with same orange colour as that of the Royal House of Orange-Nassau. After that the orange carrot spread out all over the rest of Europe. |
